BRAZIL (Buzios)

In March 2004, I had the opportunity of going to Brazil and more particularly to Buzios, north of Rio de Janeiro. I made there several divings during which one of my Brazilian friends realized a short movie on DVD where I performed as the 'star' diver (if you'd allow me to speak like that about myself). It is when he showed it to me that I decided that one day I will also make underwater videos.

Scuba diving is very much a thing in Buzios, due to the wealth of its marine life. It is normally carried out on the Island da Âncora that offers an average visibility of 12m to 25m during the summer. It is within 6 miles of the coast of Búzios. Going there takes roughly 40 minutes. Other diving spots are the Islands Gravatás, Filhote, Ilha Feia and the João Fernandinho beach. Even in rainy season as these islands are oceanic, they are not too much affected by bad weather and the climate of Búzios is very beautiful overall with an average of 250 sunny days per year.

The short movie on DVD to which I alluded above is available here in 2 parts, the 1st being this video and the 2nd the following one.
Buzios in Brazil (2)
While the oceanic currents coming from the south of the continent bring rich nutrients that in turn attract fishes, these currents run up against cool waters coming from North, waters that one find in Cabo Frio, small fishing port very close to Buzios, where 'frio' means cold.

The location of the island of Ancora is earmarked in red on this map, way west of the small Buzios harbor.
