Landing on the Fleurans airfield has to be successful at the first attempt : if you miss it, going around is impossible there.

Practicing mountain flying requires special training: to prove it, you should look below at 2 videos where you will see that after a 'tricky' approach to the runway, the short final and the landing are even more so.

Moreover, this is an airfield whose characteristics are such that once engaged in short final it is no longer possible to start a go-around, which is why only the owner of this track is allowed to land and he himself will tell you that it is only possible under certain particular aerological conditions. Only a device with particularly advanced STOL characteristics, such as the G1, allows this kind of safe landing and it goes without saying that only a very sharp pilote can master it (hopefully that is the case of the owner of this airfield).
Short mountain landing and taking off.
Shot in May 2009 with a SANYO HD2000 camera, this video (see in particular the extracted picture above) makes it possible to realize that the pilot has to land in a mountain cirque which does not offer enough space for a go-around if he is too long.
Short landing once more at the Fleurans.
Realized in March 2016 in almost perfect weather conditions with a GoPro HD4 camera offering high sharpness and a wider angle of view, this 2nd video highlights the problem for a mountain pilot facing a grazing sun. This is often the case in the mountains because the best weather conditions for flying are encountered most often in the morning.
