SPOTFIN BUTTERFLYFISH

I already introduced you to the foureye butterflyfish in the Bahamas (see link) et à Saba (see link). To locate this island, go there. Here is now the spotfin butterflyfish on videos I shot in nearshore West Florida waters, close to some debris and a wreck on May 26th 2016 and July 21st 2017, also around an isolated coral reef on August 2nd 2016. Its two main features are a small black spot more or less noticable and located on the end of the dorsal fin along a pronounced black bar that runs across its entire head, directly through its eye.

The spotfin butterflyfish is peaceful, most commonly found in shallow waters around debris, wrecks and coral reefs, sometimes alone as you can see therinafter with my videos or most often in bonded pairs (see same videos) who form a lifelong partnership. Most active during the day, they change color and seek shelter for sleep in the evening, as they are highly vulnerable to larger predators.

The family of butterflyfish is very large and to get an idea of the great diversity in this family, refer to the pictures on this site in Frech or on this site in English. Bold, bright and easy to care for, spotfin butterflyfish may be kept alive in an seawater aquarium.
